Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeswara (JSS) Academy of Higher Education & Research, formerly Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeswara University, is an institute of higher education focussed on medical and health related studies in Mysore, Karnataka, India.
Established in 2008, the institution is part of JSS Mahavidyapeetha, which runs a variety of educational institutions.
It is a deemed-to-be-university, an accreditation awarded by India’s Department of Higher Education to higher educational institutions in India working at a very high standard in a specific area of study, which can enjoy academic status and certain privileges of a university. Such institutions are not allowed to use the term university’ in their names.
The institution provides medical courses at diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
JSS is comprised of JSS Medical College, JSS Dental College, the Faculty of Life Sciences, the Department of Health System Management Studies, the Department of Water and Health and two pharmacy colleges: JSS College of Pharmacy at the main campus in Mysore, and another pharmacy college in Ootacamund in the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu.
The institution also has a training and placement cell, which maintains relationships with industries and guides students towards finding employment, through skill and interview preparation.
Established through funds received from the Department of Science and Technology, the Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology and Regenerative Medicine (CEMR) is a research laboratory in Mysore, which focuses on the molecular mechanisms of cancer pathogenesis and regenerative biology.
The six hostels – three for boys and three for girls – have space to accommodate about 1,800 students.
